If you like what you see and you have a project in mind then I’m happy to hear from you.
Here is the presentation of my project –
This project was quite challenging and I came across to a few difficulties –
Overall, I learnt quite a lot about different apps that already exist and how they work, what technologies museums use etc.
I think that this project is successful in sens of user testing – every person that I did user testing with said that it is a great idea and they would like to have it in museum.
I did user testing throughout the full designing process even research process and that is why I got loads of feedback from people early and could develop this app with feedback I got.
My last user testing was very positive and that is why I am happy with this app.
While doing my research, I found out that museums give visitors freedom in using their apps by letting them download their apps through iTunes or Google Play and install them on their devices before they come to museums.
I decided to give this option to visitors as well and thus designed mobile version of the app.
I decided to add old feel to the design by changing background to old paper texture.
(I downloaded it from here)
This texture added exactly what the design was missing – old and elegant feel.
The reason why I decided to use old paper is that the house itself is more than 500 years old and I wanted to create feeling in visitors that they are in museum even thought they use modern technologies there, surrounding is very old.
This app is controlled by swiping with fingers so every time user swipe the screen, page will move like in a book. This way it is combined old with new/modern.
I created another pages in the same design. I kept the sign of William Wilberforce but I just made it smaller.
This is what my initial designs look like –
As you can see on the picture above, I tried to create something similar to Bronte Parsonage Museum application but I wasn’t happy with it as it looked tacky!
Next design looks like this –
I got rid off picture of the house and made the sign of William Wilberforce bigger.
The sign that is used for design is taken from little brochure little brochure called ‘Wilberforce house’ history and collections (eleventh edition) written by John Bartlett, M.A., F.M.A., Director in 1968. The reason for it is to create authentic feel for the house and full exhibition.
I talked about in previous posts. (for more information click here)
I wasn’t happy with this design either so I played with colours but it didn’t help at all –
Here is the wire frame of the app designed in Adobe Photoshop CS6 –
I randomly found this website while I was looking for ideas how to design the app for this project, it is called www.heritageinteractive.co.uk
Here are all apps that they designed for museums, it is great website for ideas!
However, the design I liked the best and it fits into my project extremely well, is called ‘Bronte Parsonage Museum – Interactive Virtual Tour‘.
This is perfect for my project and it helps me to decide about the design for my app.
